Subject: Search box not visible in Firefox
Viewing the Freshmeat home page with Internet Explorer 8, I see the search-string input field near the top right corner of the page, in the same line as the blue Sites button. To the right of the Search input field I see a button labeled "Search."
These objects -- the input field and the Search button -- are not visible in Firefox (latest version for Windows). If I know where the input field is supposed to appear, I can click there and type something into it; likewise if I know where the button is supposed to be, I can click and actually search. Without this prior knowledge of where these items should show up, I can't search at all. In fact, I don't even know that a search function exists!
I have discovered one workaround: if I select the Firefox View menu : Page Style : No Style, then the search field and the button become visible. Thus it appears that something is wrong with the CSS for the search field and the search button, such that they are visible from IE but not from Firefox.
Thank you.
Ralph

I just did a fresh install of the latest version of Firefox on Windows XP, and the search box on freshmeat.net is clearly visible in the expected location without having to disable the CSS style. Do you have any Firefox extensions installed that might change the CSS rules that are applied to a site? Is there a horizontal scroll bar shown at the bottom of the browser window that displays a freshmeat page? Can you think of any other reasons why we would be unable to duplicate this problem?

Daniel Pearson,
Thank for your quick reply.
I turned off all Firefox extensions, and the search box is now visible! Good thinking on your part. I will figure out which extension is causing the problem, and report it to the extension's author.
As far as I'm concerned, my issue is resolved.
